Furniture

This first item is a trestle table that was built using sawn poplar for the table top and legs, and oak for the stretcher and wedges.

Trestle Table

This type of table is popular with those that travel, as it is easily broken down into manageable and easily storable pieces for travel, and yet is quickly assembled into a sturdy and useful table when needed.

The next piece is a pencil post bed frame that was made from highly figured maple. The headboard is made of four pieces that are edge joined and  cut to shape. The post are all made from one piece of maple that was 4 1/2" thick, 12" wide, and 96" long. The rails are built from maple, and the side rails have an oak insert to insure strength and capture the slats.

The rails are joined to the post with Mortise and Tenon joints, and then a bolt is inserted through the post into the end of the tenon and threaded into a nut mortised into the rail. This ensures a solid, sturdy frame.

This frame also has a tester that isn't shown in this series of pictures, which were made before the finish was applied.
